As the years go on, Val and I have been working to define the traditions for each holiday that will hopefully take root in our boys hearts. We try to look at the lasting impressions and what these times mean. I think the boys are now at a stage where they get it – at least they seem to.
This year we decided not to travel, or make a production of people coming over to share our food, as is the rushed tradition of many. Rather, we just relaxed and gave God the glory for all that we have and confined to be blessed with.
Just so happened that Gabriela and her guy came to have lunch with us – just some simple turkey sandwiches and salad and enjoyed a nice afternnon watching a football game. For those who don’t know, Gabby was a student if Val’s back when she taught.
We then spent part if the day preparing our big meal – from scratch – for us and the boys to enjoy together – again, no big production only giving thanks for the constant provision we receive.
The evening was spent with te neighbors who hosted dessert for some friends – we just lounged around the fire pit and enjoyed each other’s company in into the night.
While I am sure that many people find it necessary to cling to the traditions they were raised with, I would encourage those of you with little ones to establish traditions of your own, with your home being the base from which the holiday operations take place.
I am looking forward to the Christmas holiday and the things we have planned for the kids – we start opening the little doors in the Advent calendar tomorrow…
Thank you for allowing me to share a little about what goes on around our home – oh and one last parting shot – the great feast we prepared and consumed this past celebration of giving thanks…

Thanks for sharing this! I agree with you and have made it a point to create our own Baptista traditions for the holidays always pointing to our creator and thanking Him for everything. Thanks be to God for my family, friends and faith in Him!
